Hypothetical Old English, either 'Gleodandun'='kite's hill' or 'Gleodandenu'='kite's valley'. The farm is in a valley, but the earlier forms imply 'hill'. The first element may be a personal name 'Kite'. The spellings do not suggest West Saxon 'glida'. The absence of any vowel between the two 'd' is hard to account for.
